About Sustopedia
Sustopedia is a free public sustainability knowledge platform operated by Climateware. It combines a connected dictionary, a source-linked metric library and optional assessment tools that turn a defined business question into an immediate snapshot and a more detailed report.
What the public libraries cover
The catalog spans Climate, Carbon & Energy; Circular Economy, Materials & Waste; Nature, Water & Land; Reporting, Finance & Governance; and Sustainable Development, Value Chains & People. Topic hubs provide curated starting points and connections, while A–Z is the single directory and routed-search surface for the published catalog.
Terms explain concepts and relationships. Metrics identify defined measures and their sources. Both libraries are growing references, not exhaustive accounts of sustainability. Acronyms, spelling variants and accepted aliases resolve to a canonical concept instead of creating duplicate pages.
How content is created
AI-assisted research and writing use authoritative and primary sources to create structured records. Deterministic checks validate identity, content shape, citations, relationships, structured data and the public build. Versioned source and methodology records make changes inspectable.
Automated checks improve consistency but do not make a record error-free or equivalent to review by a regulator, standards body, rating platform, verifier or accredited assurance provider. A record that fails its publication contract is corrected or withheld from the public build.
How the assessments work
Sustopedia currently provides three defined diagnostics: EcoVadis score-improvement preparation, GHG inventory and audit readiness, and CBAM exposure, cost and data readiness. Each asks one clear question at a time, follows only relevant branches and uses a published, source-versioned deterministic rule set. An AI model does not decide the visitor’s score, route or finding.
Visitors can complete the questions anonymously and see a useful snapshot before the contact gate. A detailed report is optional and requires work email, company, country and report-access agreement. First name, job title, a contact request and marketing consent are optional. Choosing Report only does not request consultant follow-up.
Sustopedia and Climateware operate the assessment interface and records. Semtrio receives and processes report-access details and assessment information for report delivery and only the assessment-related follow-up selected by the visitor. Relevant Semtrio services may be shown as optional next steps; opening a report or service link does not create a paid advisory engagement.
How concepts connect
Each canonical term belongs to one primary topic and links to broader, narrower, related or commonly confused concepts. Those links come from the accepted concept graph, while aliases and query hints help visitors find the canonical destination without creating new content identities.
Relationships provide navigation and explanatory context. They do not establish that two concepts are equivalent, endorsed or applicable to a particular situation.
Sources and current context
Each term uses a small set of sources, with defining bodies, regulators, public institutions, standards bodies and established research institutions preferred where appropriate. Public references use final HTTPS links, and Sustopedia paraphrases rather than reproduces source material.
Versioned or time-sensitive concepts show an as-of date and, where useful, issuer, jurisdiction, instrument or version, status and applicability. These details describe the cited release context; they are not a real-time verification or compliance service.
Limits of Sustopedia
Sustopedia is an explanatory reference and preliminary decision-support service. It is not a regulator, standards setter, certifier, rating platform, accredited verifier or professional adviser, and it does not determine whether a person, organization, product, investment, report, environmental claim or activity complies, qualifies or is suitable.
Assessment outputs do not reproduce an official EcoVadis score, calculate or verify a GHG inventory, or make a legal CBAM determination. Any CBAM cost scenario is indicative and depends on declared inputs and stated assumptions. Sustopedia does not promise completeness, error-free output, perfect neutrality or real-time currency. Check cited sources and use controlling material or appropriate professional advice for decisions that depend on law, finance, science, reporting, compliance or a particular jurisdiction.
