Average training hours per employee
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Average qualifying training hours during the reporting period for a declared employee population, retained with the hour boundary, employee denominator basis, source edition and any gender or employee-category breakdown.

- Training hours per employee
- Reporting basis
- Reporting period
- Aggregation
- Do not sum or arithmetically average reported percentages, rates, ratios, or averages; consolidate only from compatible component observations under a disclosed method.

Reporting boundary
Averages are never summed or averaged. Compatible hour numerators and employee denominators may be added and the average recalculated only under the same method, period, population, denominator basis and non-overlapping entity boundary. Parent totals are not added to gender or category rows.

Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2772, consolidated 1 January 2025 — Consolidated 1 January 2025 edition; GRI 404: Training and Education 2016 — 2016 edition. Retain the exact source edition on every observation; later editions require a separate method profile.

- Training content where supplied.
- Formal, non-formal or other source-defined type.
- Completion treatment.

- Retain the exact measurement-source edition with every observation.
- Qualifying training hours during the reporting period divided by the compatible employee denominator defined by the declared method.
Record-specific limitations
- Hours do not measure learning quality, skill gain, access equity, completion quality or business outcome.
- Long courses can dominate.
- Part-time populations are sensitive to headcount versus FTE.
- Current ESRS and GRI numerator and denominator profiles are not interchangeable.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
