Critical raw materials
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Named material-resource inflows classified against a declared critical-raw-material list and edition, with optional reported mass, volume, or share kept separate from the regulatory classification itself.

Reporting boundary
Named material-resource inflows identified under a declared critical-material list edition. The legal list supplies classification evidence only; any undertaking-specific mass, volume, or share comes from separate reported inflow evidence.

- Unit
- Structured table — see field-level units
- Reporting basis
- Reporting-period inflow and classification effective date
Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Material or group, grade, processing state, product or component, supplier geography, and period
- Critical, strategic, and rare-earth flags; authority, regulation, list section, edition, and effective date
- Mass (kg — kilograms, or metric tonnes; 1 metric tonne = 1,000 kilograms), if reported
- Volume (L — litres, or m³ — cubic metres; 1 cubic metre = 1,000 litres), if reported
- % of the named compatible inflow denominator, physical state, method, source, and uncertainty
Published dimensions
- Material, grade, classification flags, list edition, processing state, quantity basis, and period

Disclosure form
No single formulaPopulate the structured fields from qualifying source observations and retain each field-level unit, boundary, status, and method; do not collapse the disclosure into one calculated value.

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Binding ESRS E5-4 and Regulation (EU) 2024/1252 consolidated 3 May 2024; the July 2026 ESRS key-material profile is adopted-pending compatibility only.
- Name the material or group, grade, processing state, classification authority, list section, edition, and effective date.
- Keep critical, strategic, and rare-earth flags separate and preserve classification-only rows as null quantities.
- For mass, state kilograms or metric tonnes of the named material and that one metric tonne equals 1,000 kilograms.
- For volume, state litres or cubic metres, physical state, temperature when material, and that one cubic metre equals 1,000 litres.
- For a share, name the compatible inflow denominator, unit basis, perimeter, entity, and reporting period.
Record-specific limitations
- Critical, strategic, and rare-earth classifications are distinct, overlapping flags rather than additive categories.
- List membership can change by jurisdiction and edition and does not itself measure quantity, scarcity, supply risk, or procurement security.
- Grouped material classes, grade-specific entries, processing stages, contained material, and host-product mass can create double counting.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
