Hazardous waste generated
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Mass of waste generated during the reporting period that meets the stated hazardous-waste classification, retained by stream, material, site, mass state, and measurement method.

Reporting boundary
Waste generated by own operations or the separately labelled own-activities or value-chain boundary. Hazardous classification authority, waste code, material composition, mass state, effluent rule, and period are mandatory; radioactive waste remains separate.

- Structured table — see field-level units
- Reporting basis
- Waste generated during the reporting period
Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Site or operation, own-activities boundary, waste stream, and named material composition
- Hazardous classification authority and edition, waste code, and hazardous property
- Generated mass (t — metric tonnes of the named stream, where 1 t = 1,000 kg; or kg — kilograms)
- Original, wet, or dry mass state; direct or estimated method; generation date or interval
- Effluent rule, radioactive-waste separation, reporting period, source, and assurance status
Published dimensions
- Site, waste stream, material, hazardous classification, mass state, measurement method, and period

Disclosure form
No single formulaPopulate the structured fields from qualifying source observations and retain each field-level unit, boundary, status, and method; do not collapse the disclosure into one calculated value.

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Binding ESRS E5-5 under Regulation (EU) 2023/2772 consolidated 1 January 2025 and Directive 2008/98/EC consolidated 16 October 2025; effective GRI 306: Waste 2020; July 2026 ESRS is adopted-pending compatibility only.
- Name site or operation, own-activities boundary, waste stream, material composition, waste code, classification authority, and hazardous property.
- State t — metric tonnes of the named stream (1 t = 1,000 kg), or kg — kilograms for a source-native small quantity.
- State original, wet, or dry mass basis; direct or estimated status; estimation method; generation interval; effluent rule; period; source; and assurance.
- Keep radioactive waste separate and never infer disposal, treatment outcome, or legal compliance from generated mass.
Record-specific limitations
- Mass does not measure toxicity, exposure, treatment quality, environmental outcome, or legal compliance.
- Hazardous classification varies by jurisdiction and edition, and radioactive waste is not silently included.
- Generated mass is not disposal mass; timing, storage, transfer, loss, and boundary differences remain visible.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
