Packaging material inputs by material
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Weight or volume of materials used specifically to package the organization's primary products and services during the reporting period, retained by material, renewability, sourcing route, physical state, and measurement method.

Reporting boundary
Packaging-material inputs used to package the organization's primary products and services. This material-input subset remains distinct from packaging first made available in a jurisdiction, packaging stock, purchased packaging, packaging waste generated, and packaging recycled.

- Unit
- Structured table — see field-level units
- Reporting basis
- Packaging material inputs during the reporting period
Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Named material, packaging-use role, product or service category, and site or operation
- Renewable or non-renewable classification method and internally sourced or externally purchased route
- Input quantity (t — metric tonnes, where 1 t = 1,000 kg; kg — kilograms; or m³ — cubic metres of the named material)
- Physical condition, direct or estimated status, estimation method, reporting period, source, and assurance
- Lifecycle profile: packaging input only, kept separate from market placement, stock, waste, and recycling
Published dimensions
- Material, packaging use, product or service, renewability, sourcing route, physical state, unit, and period

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Binding ESRS E5-4 under Regulation (EU) 2023/2772 consolidated 1 January 2025, effective GRI 301: Materials 2016, and the distinct applicable PPWR market-placement profile under Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
- Name material type, packaging-use role, product or service category, renewable or non-renewable classification method, sourcing route, and site or operation.
- Use one source-native unit per row: t — metric tonnes (1 t = 1,000 kg), kg — kilograms, or m³ — cubic metres of the named material in its stated physical condition.
- State physical state, direct or estimated status, estimation method, reporting period, source, and assurance.
- Keep material-input, market-placement, stock, purchased-packaging, waste-generation, and recycled-packaging boundaries separate.
Record-specific limitations
- The packaging-only breakdown is a source-supported subset of the broader materials-used population.
- Mass and volume are not interchangeable without a material-specific density and physical-state method.
- Renewable, recyclable, recycled, reclaimed, market-placed, and waste quantities are different properties and lifecycle boundaries.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
