  • Physical mass in kilograms or metric tonnes of the named pollutant, where 1 t equals 1,000 kg
  • Applicable pollutant-and-water threshold and edition as a reporting gate
  • Direct-release versus off-site-transfer state, method, uncertainty and period
  • Controls preventing cross-pollutant, group-and-constituent and transfer overlap

Record-specific limitations

  • Released mass is not effluent volume, concentration, toxicity, ecological effect, water quality or permit compliance.
  • Chemically unlike pollutant masses cannot be combined into a meaningful water-pollutant total.
  • Local receiving conditions, flow and sensitivity materially affect impact interpretation.
  • Off-site transfer to treatment is not a direct receiving-water release and must remain separate.
