Formula

Product inventory net GHG emissions = quantified product-inventory GHG emissions − quantified product-inventory GHG removals, expressed as CO2e for the defined unit of analysis.

Apply the source-defined GHG Protocol Product Standard method only within the disclosed product, unit-of-analysis and life-cycle boundary. Table 12.2 explicitly identifies the reported quantity of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the product inventory in kilograms of CO2e. Under the Product Standard source rules, this is a standalone reportable product-inventory outcome when retained with its product-specific boundary, unit-of-analysis and methodological disclosures.

Evidence and status sources

Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Method disclosures required

Source-edition basis: Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard, September 2011 publication.

  • Defined product and unit of analysis, including functional unit or reference flow where applicable.
  • Product inventory boundary and included life-cycle stages.
  • Inventory reporting period.
  • Gases included and GWP source and date used for CO2e conversion.
  • Biogenic and non-biogenic emissions and removals treatment.
  • Allocation and recycling methods used.
  • Land-use-change method where applicable.

Record-specific limitations

  • Product-attribution result; it must not be represented as corporate Scope 1, Scope 2 or Scope 3 emissions.
  • Offsets, avoided emissions, delayed-emission weighting, indirect land-use change and indirect market effects must not be netted into the inventory result.
  • Interpretation depends on the defined product inventory boundary, unit of analysis, GWP source and allocation or recycling method.

Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.

Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
