Recordable work-related injury cases
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Number of work-related injury or accident cases meeting the declared recordability method during the reporting period, retained by worker population, injury type, incident type and fatality-inclusion rule.

Reporting boundary
Keep injury cases separate from ill-health cases. Include fatal work-related injury or accident cases once when the source profile requires it. Sum only unique cases under one definition and population; never add fatalities again or add parent rows to components.

Dimensions and units
- Unit
- Structured table — see field-level units
- Reporting basis
- Reporting-period incident flow
Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Injury cases — count of source-defined recordable work-related injury or accident cases
- Recordability definition, edition, declared national alternative, and fatality-inclusion rule
- Worker population, injury and incident type, commuting rule, site or geography, and reporting period
- Direct or estimated status, excluded workers and reason, source and assurance status
Published dimensions
- ESRS or GRI recordability definition, edition, and declared national alternative
- Employee, controlled non-employee, or own-workforce population
- Injury or accident terminology, injury type, incident type, and musculoskeletal classification
- Fatality inclusion, commuting rule, excluded workers, and exclusion reason
- Site or geography, reporting period, direct or estimated status, source and assurance

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Method disclosures required
Source-edition basis: Binding consolidated ESRS S1-14 and effective GRI 403: 2018 use distinct recordability and population profiles; adopted-pending ESRS is compatibility context.
- Name the recordability profile and edition, any national alternative, worker population, and reporting period.
- State fatality inclusion, commuting rule, injury and incident type, site, and excluded worker types and reasons.
- Include fatal injury cases once where required and keep injury and ill-health cases separate.
- Do not add a parent population row to components and label any estimated data.
Record-specific limitations
- Recordability rules vary by source and jurisdiction.
- Reporting access and culture affect case counts.
- The count is not exposure normalized and does not measure safety or injury severity.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
