Renewable energy consumption in own operations
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Renewable energy consumption in own operations is final energy consumed by owned or controlled operations from renewable fuel, purchased or acquired renewable energy, and self-generated non-fuel renewable sources.

Reporting boundary
Final renewable energy consumed in owned or controlled operations. Fuel used to generate energy later consumed is counted once under fuel, and energy whose renewable attributes were sold is not represented as self-generated renewable consumption under the future GRI profile.

Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Renewable source, renewable fuel or non-fuel class, and carrier
- Purchased, acquired or self-generated origin
- Energy consumed (MWh — megawatt-hours of final renewable energy consumed; 1 MWh = 1,000 kWh)
- Location-based or market-based basis, contractual instrument and attribute ownership
- Activity, facility, country, reporting period, method edition and missing-value reason
Published dimensions
- Renewable energy-consumption row
- Renewable energy source
- Renewable fuel or non-fuel class
- Electricity, heat, steam or cooling carrier
- Purchased, acquired or self-generated origin

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Binding Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2772 consolidated 1 January 2025, ESRS E1-5 paragraph 37(c) and AR32-35; the July 2026 annex and GRI 103: Energy 2025 are compatibility evidence only.
- Renewable source and renewable fuel or non-fuel class
- Carrier and purchased, acquired or self-generated origin
- Final energy consumed in MWh, spelled out as megawatt-hours of final renewable energy
- Location-based or market-based classification
- Contractual-instrument type, quality state and attribute ownership
- Activity, facility, country, reporting period and method edition
- Double-count controls across fuel, purchased energy and self-generation
- Unavailable and unclassified values with reasons, never silently represented as zero
Record-specific limitations
- Renewable classification depends on source, contractual instruments, market boundary, timing and attribute ownership.
- A renewable-energy total is not evidence of additionality or zero lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.
- Location-based and market-based alternatives are not additive.
- Renewable fuel, purchased energy and self-generated non-fuel energy remain separate to prevent double counting.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
