Substances of very high concern
Measurement answer
What this metric measures
Substances of very high concern is the separately presented mass-flow subset of substances meeting the governing REACH criteria, retained by named substance, candidate-list snapshot, mixture or article state and lifecycle stage.

Reporting boundary
Current ESRS E2-5 separate presentation of the substances-of-very-high-concern subset within the inclusive substances-of-concern disclosure. Adopted-pending actor-specific procurement, manufacture, market, use, release and article fields remain compatibility-only.

Unit meaning: This metric is reported as a structured table; each field carries the unit stated in the table fields below.
Table fields and units
- Named SVHC, Candidate List identity, dated classification snapshot and lifecycle stage
- On-own, mixture or article state and article concentration where applicable
- Mass (kg [named SVHC] — kilograms; or t [named SVHC] — metric tonnes, where 1 t = 1,000 kg)
- Facility, activity, actor role, country, reporting period and method edition
- Mixture, article, lifecycle-stage and inclusive-SoC overlap controls
- Missing, not-applicable or not-measured state and reason, never zero by default
Published dimensions
- Substance-of-very-high-concern mass-flow row
- Named substance and Candidate List identity
- Procured, generated, used, released or output lifecycle stage
- Substance on its own, in a mixture or in an article
- Facility, activity, actor role and country
- Article concentration state where applicable
- Candidate List snapshot and classification edition
- Reporting period and method edition

Evidence and status sources
Sustopedia checked each record-specific claim directly against primary publisher material. Labels distinguish current measurement authority from future compatibility and corroborative, legal, edition, or method status context. Corroborative evidence can support a stated limitation but cannot establish the core measurement by itself.

Source-edition basis: Binding ESRS E2-5 and its SVHC definition in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2772 consolidated 1 January 2025; the July 2026 actor-role structure remains pending compatibility evidence.
- Named substance, Candidate List identity and dated classification snapshot
- Lifecycle stage and on-own, mixture or article state
- Mass in kilograms or metric tonnes of the named SVHC, where 1 t equals 1,000 kg
- Facility, activity, actor role, country and reporting period
- Article concentration state without treating an article name as mass
- Controls preventing mixture, article, lifecycle-stage and inclusive-SoC double counting
Record-specific limitations
- Candidate List and classification status change over time and require a dated snapshot.
- Presence and mass do not establish exposure, hazard potency or risk.
- Article concentration disclosure is not an article-mass total.
- The same substance can recur across mixtures, articles and lifecycle stages and must be deduplicated.
- The SVHC subset must not be added to the inclusive substances-of-concern total.
Interpret this metric with the stated reporting boundary, period convention, value shape, and unit. Results prepared with different boundaries or conventions may not be directly comparable.
Measurement evidence supports the core record-specific claims described above. Corroborative evidence can support limitations, while compatibility and status sources provide their separately labelled context. None of these cards by itself determines an organisation's legal applicability, filing readiness, assurance status, or compliance conclusion.
